Howdy.
I just got bitten by the wooden boat bug ....
And found this site and ordered a 15 power skiff wide body plan.
and also ordered the building with plywood book.
any other books ya'll recommend?

I live by the truman lake. Im 13 miles east of lincoln mo.
i farm and run a cow calf operation. To pay for my hobby of being
A long haul tanker chemical driver (semi-truck)
Im over fifty years old ...and have lived next to this lake most of my life.
i own a sawmill and have several thousand BF of hardwoods. Mostly white oak.
Thinking? With this economy ...i cannot afford to buy a boat. Maybe build my own?
Whats scary is ive only been on that huge lake three times. I know absolutely lNOTHING about boats.
Last time patti and i borrowed my uncles boat we got lost so bad. We did not even know up or down........i think ill get a gps next time. Lol

Anyhoo ....after ordering the boat plans. For the glen-l power skiff. I found a picture
of a harkers island skiff...its a well boat. Motor sits in a well ..using uncles boat we almost got sunk by a big bunch of water over the back pf the boat.

I like the ideal of the well boat...wondering if i could incorporate a well into those plans somehow.
we want a very stable boat. And about all we do is trout line. And boat ride around. We dont go fast ..would like to just cruise around...dont have a motor yet.but? Thinking a honda 10-15-20 ? I dont know. Im a big guy over 6 ' and 300 pounds ...patti is itty bitty at 140 5'7
So there ya go ....what you all think?

Well you have water you have wood and somewhere to cut it plus you know how to reverse a trailer :D that puts you in a better starting point than most of us
Best of luck with the build and welcome to the forum.

We can tell, you are already hooked! :D

Backing a boat trailer isn't quite like a 53'. but more of a cross between a 28' and a dolly if you pull doubles!!

Hi dave thanks for the welcome! And everyone else.
your welcome here anytime. Especially when its time to run the mill .lol
have you built a boat?
I have this ideal in my head to mill some 1/2 x 10 or as wide as i can get.
and build a copy of the lumberyard skiff.
out of solid oak. A well boat.
Tell me if im wrong? The well boat moves everything forward. Be better for a big guy like me? More centered? The rear would be kinda like those performance pods they putt on bass boats.
wonder if it would help getting up on plane?
See? Ive been reading alot. Lol.

Happy Easter everyone.

Welcome Peabody you live by a lake ,own a saw mill, that must be as good as it gets, I also like well boats when i bought

my fishing boat it has a full hight transom with a pod for the motor, we fish on the great barrier reef and it can blow up rough very quickly,i can not understand why boats are built with high sides ,high transom and then cut half of it away
and put a short leg motor on it to easy to get swamped, we have a lake in the district and i have seen 6 ft waves on it.........

I was passin through from iraq on R-R .. ive tried to make it back ...but havent had a chance yet.
someday i want to retire there.yes ive wondered about the short boats. I thinks i want the sides as high as i can get. There is places on this lake you cain't even see land.
I have so many questions. Lol. But patiently waiting for the plans from glen-l...
And get started.
Will probly order some marine grade plywood tomorrow. In town. Got to see the doctor ..for a real bad bruised leg.ive always wanted to run away to alice. Springs .....lol

Hey, welcome to another builder from Missouri. I am almost finished with my Malahini build. I live in the St. Louis area, but will keep my boat at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Building a boat is a challenging and worthwhile pursuit. This forum offers lots of help for the myriad of questions you may have.
