Hi
My name is Schalk, I am from Pretoria, South Africa.
Really keen to build a mahogany runabout. Haven't any wood projects on this scale. I have built some basic furniture (Book case, ottoman, headboard, fish tank stand) but I have 2 friends that have many years of experience with intense wood working skills that I hope to bring in for guidance and assisting with issues (those that I can't figure out myself with some forum member's input

)
I purchased the PDF Monaco Study plan to start the planning process. Will probably buy the plans end of May or so.
Still waiting for the PDF file / download though. How long does it usually take? (Order on 4/12)
I have a couple concerns though.
- Space - luckily we heard yesterday we won't be moving soon (renting at the moment), so I can start before having to move. But a 19' boat might prove to take up too much space. My car will have to stay outside for a while

- Unit conversion - Not sure how accurate the measurements have to be (converting 1/8" or 1/4" plywood for example) with all the sanding and fairing, but some assistance on this would be really appreciated. Local supplier of marine plywood offers them in 4mm, 6mm, 9mm, etc.
- Scale of project - perhaps I should start with something smaller and simpler than the Monaco? Any ideas?
- Sourcing a motor - no idea where to start looking. A friend of mine has a couple Lexus V8 motors, but they will have to be marinized. Would prefer to get one already done.
If there are any other South African members (search did bring up a couple), please let me know.
