Hi Everyone,

What a great site this is. I am looking at building my first boat for fishing. Not too sure which design yet. Hopefully after making friends here and chatting, I might have more of an idea of what would be best. Looking forward to seeing any boats other members have built.

8) welcome to the forum there is a great lot of info posted here and feel free to ask questions. we are getting quite a number of builders down your way and I am sure they will be popping in shortly. as far as what boat to build look at the catalog and keep in mind what you want to use it for and the type of water you will be putting it on. and also consider if you are going to use it for multi purposes or just fishing. or that you might want to camp out in it a couple or even a single night. one nice thing about glen-l plans even the big ones can be built by beginners. they just take longer. I wish you luck on your build and look forward to see you start your building thread. 8)

Hi and Welcome Dezzy!
Man Aussie's are coming out of the woodwork now!!!!
I guess the first thing to decide is what length you want or can fit in your building space, trailerable or not, then style of boat and features from the plans available. As other will no doubt point out though, if you just want a fiahing boat then go buy one as it will be faster and probably cheaper. If however, you want to build a boat then you are in the right place.
I gather from my little brother that over there the bottom has a very shallow angle and you haev to go a long way out to get to deep water, so if you want that style of fishing you need a fast planing boat with high sides to handle aq bit of rough water. If you are into river fishing (do you have local rivers?) then maybe not so fast and less freeboard.

Let us know what you are thinking.
