New Member - Tennessee

Post by UTvols05 »

Hello everyone. My name is Robert and I am new member to the forum from Tennessee. I've been browsing the forum on and off again for several years and have decided it is time to start the boat building process. I figured joining the forum was a good first step.

Well... in spite of the v*ls reference.... welcome aboard!

Please... please.... don't paint your boat orange.

Just kidding. Seriously, welcome aboard!

Have you settled on any particular design?

And have you visited the forum enough to know about our yearly Gathering of boat builders every September at Nickajack lake?

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I have not decided on a specific model yet, but I know it will be a center console set up for fishing (bass, jugging for catfish and trolling for rockfish). As for color it will either be a glue / grey / white or black grey yellow combination. We have a '92 Mastercraft that we use for skiing and tubing.

Dave - I did see the gathering is at Nickajack lake and that is exciting. I'm assuming you do not have to have a boat built to attend? I have never been on that lake. I spend the majority of my time on Tims Ford and Woods Reservoir in Winchester. Also, who do you use as a lumber source in the Nashville area?

You are correct. Yes, this group has absolutely no pride whatsoever. We will let ANYONE attend. LOL

Welcome from a fellow builder living just south of Nashville in Columbia. The forum and the people who participate on it are top notch.

These fellows are knowledgeable and helpful. I attended The Gathering when it was in Guntersville and highly recommend going to one. It will give you insight, ideas, and confidence. You will also meet good people. I even built a non Glen L design and didn't get flack.

This groups most standout point of help to me was advise after I was way into the build and wanted a boarding door above the waterline but was terrified to cut it. I was afraid to loose the curve of the boat to it returning to flat upon the cut. They talked me right through it and if I hadn't consulted them my fear would have been reality.

Welcome
