Hi fellow boat builders

Well finally after many years of thinking about building a boat took the leap and ordered the plans .

So the search now starts on suitable timbers and local suppliers for frames , planking and decking so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The boat I am building is a Rivera 20 footer .
Finish idea: black hull timber deck plenty of mirror polished stainless as per pic .
Boat building Experience: built a model fire tender when I was 11
Timber Experience : chippy by trader.
Build location: Garage ( haven't told wife yet that her car needs to be parked outside working on this)

Appreciate any advice on others who have built the Rivera runabout or similar and other builders in Perth or Australia.

Thanks in advance Sean.

Welcome, Sean!

Don't make the spouse upset! Haha! Have fun building! It is a ride with ups, downs, and a general reflection of life. It's a blast: the most fun I've ever had spending money!

Welcome Sean,

Like the other's have said, expect your garage to be occupied for some time. I think nearly everyone here underestimates the amount of time it will take to complete the boat, but like Brad said, this is definitely the best thing I have ever spent money on.

Welcome Sean, Happy New Year . Where in WA are you? I have built a Glen-l Renegade and used recycled Hoop pine for the frames that came off a 100 year old building . All my other timber and ply and fibreglass and epoxy , also paint came from " Boatcraft Pacific". I think they have an Agent in Perth. For your wife's car you could put up a temporary shelter from Bunnings . Remember measure twice cut once, also make your setup frame a little bit higher so you can unbolt it when you have finished prior to turning over. There are a couple of Rivera's on this side Aust. Have fun building your boat and it will be finished when its finished. Mine had no time frame.

G'day Sean, I'm also in Perth and have just started building a little Zip. I've got a cabinet shop in Balcatta if you need use of a panel saw or anything give me a bell.

Cheers, Greg
