material for battens and keel

Post by BruceB » Fri Jan 25, 2019 11:45 am

I am building a 16' wide bottom drift boat. I am using white oak for the inner chines. What material would be best for the 1x3 battens and keel. This is my first boat project. I will be 72 in May. Let's here it for "never too late".

Yay! Never too late.

Sapele, African mahogany, Honduran mahogany, even white oak. Check the guidelines in Glen Ls wood guide for rot resistant species and what you can get locally.
