Hi folks,

Mike from Titusville FL here considering building a mahogany runabout. Enjoyed Bill's telecon about his experience with the Tahoe - I learned a lot...It's the mark of a good engineer and person that will admit and let others learn from his mistakes. I am more a car guy (67 Nova SS, 420 SEL..) but have done my share of woodwork too and have a fair amount of tools and machinery (planer, joiner) for that purpose. I am interested to know about plans or mod ideas to combine the forward keel line and transom design of the Taho 19, with the open space around the engine "sport" configuration of the Key West by Ken. Any ideas or links to plans would be appreciated.

Mike

Hi Mike.

The term for an open runabout with an engine box (rather than being fully decked, with an engine hatch) is a "Utility".

Search the forum on "Utility" and you will find lots of discussion about utility options on various designs.

I think the Tahoe Utility question has been raised in the last week or so.

Thanks Bruce! Keywords are everything...

I think I could order the Monaco Utility supplement and glean enough design info to open the Tahoe up. I would agree with a post that suggests keeping the deck brace behind the seat (which the Monaco Utility has) or maybe double up a walk through frame behind the seat instead.

Thanks for the help

Mike
