I just ordered the study plans for the Chessie Flyer. Does anyone know what the gross weight of the boat and a trailer would be? My FJ Cruiser is rated for 5000 lbs and was wondering if it would pull it.

Thanks,
Dave

The displacement weight is 3950# I think. Disp. is the total weight of the design weight in the water. That includes tankage, gear, crew and safety gear. You won't be trailering loaded like that. You may want to research trailer weights. But, you should be OK.

I find it interesting that you are interested in the Chessie Flyer. I am interested too. My needs are a little unusual in that I have a low bridge near my home and I need to hand lower and raise the masts. The Chessie having two masts, each of which is not too tall to handle. Fits the bill for camping too. Also I have shallow water and the chessie is perfect for that. On the down side there is only 4' head room in the cabin. The galley is at the opening for the cabin leaving a place to stand there, if weather is bad this may not be good either. Still probably a good choice for Lake Erie where the water can get pretty rough. A great looking boat. Are you're requirements similar? Regardless sounds like an attractive choice. Go for it!
