 Post subject: panking-fixings

In ‘old-school’ boat building when they fix the planking to the ribs they used some sort of timber rivet/plug instead of today’s modern fixings, anyone know what this was called and were to find infomation on this technique?

i believe what you are asking about are called "Trunnels". Check out one of this years issues of wooden boat for an article on them. WB#226 page 66 (photo); page 67 (mention); and pages 102 & 103 (article).
