Mast head sheaves and halyards

Dinghies, day sailers, world cruisers. Many small sailboats make ideal rowboats or low-speed power boats.

Mast head sheaves and halyards

Postby Stuart » Wed Feb 14, 2018 7:24 pm

For the Glen l 25 which is a masthead sloop with a main sail and a jib, how many sheaves are in the mast head? On the drawings for the wooden mast it shows two. In the Glen-L kit they give you 4 for the aluminum mast. Some show 2 pulleys for the jib but I only see one for the mainsail. I was given two fairlead pulleys for the out leds of the internal halyards on the mast. Suggestions are acceptable.

Hi Gayle, thanks for the reply but just one question more, are the four sheaves used or are some used as spacers. Thanks for any clarity, I want to get this project into the water this spring..

The sheaves are inserted into the Masthead "C" casting next to each other with a piece of micarta or plastic between. Scroll down to the section on this part in our Spar Instructions: http://www.glen-l.com/designs/sailboat/spar-instructions.html
