Z Flats Flyer hits the water!
Well i finally put her in the water!
Still not 100% complete but soon will be.
Definitely need spray rails and definitely needs guide rails in the bottom. Very wet at the least chop/wind and turns horribly without any sort of guide rails on the bottom. So these r what I'm gonna be working on now.
The other problem is i used 12mm side and bottom planking rather than the 9mm sides that the plans called for and seems like the boats is very heavy! Seems also that its nose heavy and id have to trim the motor pretty high for the boat to lift its nose up. Im thinking maybe a 10" engine spacer would solve this problem. What do u think?
Does anyone know if the flats flyer is a self bailing cockpit?
Cheers

Very impressive build! You'll have trouble convincing everybody it isn't " plastic".
The deck looks fantastic.

Re: Z Flats Flyer hits the water!
Looks very good.
I think I would start with some props first. Try a High 5, maybe a four blade? Look for a bow lifting prop.
Set backs will help but the load on the transom will be higher.Carring the bow is the job of the bottom of the boat. She may need more rocker and that would be hard to add now.
The prop you have not tryed is the best one?

Nice work, Zane !! Another worthy addition to your Glen-L Fleet
What do the plans recommend for fuel tank capacity and location, and where did you install them in your boat ?

Re: Z Flats Flyer hits the water!
Thanx for the kind words fellaz!!
The plans recommend a 40 gallon tank but i put a bigger capacity aluminum tank (about 60 gallons) but i only filled it half way.
Its located in the front exactly where the plans said to put it. but the other thing is put the console about a foot more forward than the plans location.. that could be why :s
Now if i put lets say a 10" engine bracket... won't placing the motor 10" further back help lifting the bow a bit more?
So a four blade prop helps with lift?
Cheers

Wow, she looks great! One would think that engine would make her...or him stand up like a stallion. You could try an offset mount, if your transom can handle it. We call them jackplates here in the US. They are used to set the engine back and they also allow you to raise/lower it either by hydraulics or a manual screw.
These guys make parts for the military and the jackplate business was a side business. But, they are really nice.

Hey Jeffh thats what i was referring to when i said a 10" engine plate.. Jack plate. Im going with one from bobs machine shop... either an 8 or 10 inch not sure yet! Ill find out today! I have a good feeling about this.
Well the beer was definitely there that time but no fish..... Next trip out ill definitely have some fish in the cooler!!!
Again thanx all and glad you like the boat
PS. Jeffh..... (The riviera and tahoe are awaiting engine installation... engines r here but things r on a pause right now after finding out the hole i drilled on the tahoe does not align with the motor!!!)
Cheers

Re: Z Flats Flyer hits the water!
Very nice looking boat, I justed ordered my plans Yesterday. I gotta wonder if I made the correct decision, however after reading the way you built the boat and went over the power recommendations I can't help to wonder if that contributes to the issues you are having. I am not as experienced as you I am sure. I am just hoping I made the right decision, it was either this one or the one from Bateau the Phantom 18.
