Barra's Zip "Helen" Launched

Post by Barra »

So after about 2.5 years of work we launched the Zip today and christened her "Helen" (after my very understanding and supportive wife).

Beautiful day on the river. Only went for a short run (still need to finish the registration process) but she performed brilliantly. As expected 50hp is plenty of power! Reached 30 knots (very easily) before I chickened out. After the motor is run in properly and we get nice flat conditions we'll see what she can do.

Turns really nice and no signs of porpoising so far but will need to have a longer run to confirm. The acceleration she has is quite impressive!

So we're all very happy with how she turned out!

Congratulations Barra,

The work is completed and along with your recent move, you've accomplished some significant events this year. 2014 will certainly stick in your memory. Well done. The boat looks gorgeous on the lake. I can see from your smile that you love the results. Glad to see it. :D

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

Took her out again this morning. She does handle great but needs flat water so will need to find days when it's not too windy.

Andy, it is pretty warm down here (was 39 deg C the other day, ~102F), however Fremantle is pretty well known for its windy summer afternoons (the "Freo Doctor") which cools things down but does make the river pretty choppy.

Now we just need to convince our little boy to put on his life jacket so he can come out too!

Excellent! The boat looks great. It must be nice to have warm weather, it is supposed to get down to 10 degrees F tonight.

Well there's warm and what we had on Monday... 44.4 C, 112 F. Glad to be in a nair conditioned office that day!

Mind you 10F doesn't sound fun either!
