Hi Bill,
I am a new member on the forum but have been following Glen_L for a couple years and have some of their fine books (Boat Building with Plywood) and CD's. I have been studying the plans book for a small human-powered boat but cannot find a source for 1/4" exterior DF or marine ply within 6 hours drive. I did find these two sources:Berlin G.Myers,Summerville, SC near Charleston, and The Hardwood Store,Gibsonville, NC near Greensboro. I am looking for somewhere closer. I live in western N.C. near Asheville.
I was on the site this afternoon as a guest and was very impressed with the degree of helpfulness expressed by the members in answering questions. I was especially moved by a response by "hlucus" in Arlington, WA to a young man who was going to put off building because he didn't think he had the time at this point in his life.
P.S. I hope you'll accept this query as my introduction as being new to forums I couldn't figure out how to "post" an introduction. And if this question is not for you please forward it to the proper person. Thanks.

I don't know of any suppliers in your surroundings. I would check with any good local cabinet shops and see if they get any deliveries from Georgia Pacific which carries DF in AB which I use for transoms and its used for good hand built cabinet shells and tops. There is also several others in Greensboro and High Point area. But also check with some of the older furniture shops thats been known to sell their hardwood lately too . World Panel ships and the service is grand. But they are located on the eastern part of the state.

You might look at http://www.marine-plywood.us/

Marine ply is a problem.

I also happen to know a somewhat obscure source for marine plywood. There is a place in Mooresville NC called "Crusse'n Classics". It is a big shop that restores classic boats (mainley Chris-Crafts of all sizes). I stopped in their shop a few months back and he sold me some scrap meranti plywood for my frame gussets. He let me know that they could help me order any marine plywood i would need.

I ultimatly ended up ordering most of my plywood from Homestead Hardwoods but that is mainly because i live in Tennessee.

Here's the Website for Crusse'n Classics. Trust me, if you are a boat enthusiast....its worth the trip just to see this guys shop. Its loaded with classic wooden boats and classic outboards.

Garfield the gdcarpenter in Raleigh. Capital City Lumber in Raleigh usually stocks one or two types of marine plywood. They also have a pretty decent selection of hardwoods. I am building the Glen L ZIP.
