Random-Random quantity to purchase

Postby cdjones » Fri Jul 21, 2006 4:40 pm

I will be purchasing white oak for my frames. When purchasing random-random stock that is surfaced 2 sides, by what factor should I increase my order over the board feet actually utilized?

e.g. for the Glen-L 12 the lumber quantity actually in the boat (minus the rudder, tiller, daggerboard [which will be honduran mahogany] & mast [which will be sitka spruce]) is 36.25 board feet. I am planning on ordering 54 board feet of random-random 4/4 stock. Is this 50% overage enough or should I up the order?
