hello lads, i aint been on here for a long time,

just got some questions about building a long canoe or dragon boat for my boat club. we have got it bad down here with all the rich trying to take over our boat club and to address the balance we are having pool club and darts night, but that is still not enough. we are now going to build a long canoe or dragon boat with an outrigger to enter the great river race on the river thames in london, england.

so can anyone suggest a few designs that we could follow.

we need it to fit six to ten rowers all in a straight line preferbally with a rudder.

we dont expect to come first, but it will keep the snobs off our back for a good few months and create a nice bonding meathod for our working class club. a bit like escape from colditz or the great escape. we got to keep the goons busy being impressed with us, so we can have our beer, peace and freedom.

i hope you can help and thanks a lot americans.
all the best, alex.

I don't have an answer for you. But there are several members from over that way that should have some feel of what would work. An active member right now Rational Root lives in Ireland too and stops by pretty frequently each day or so. good luck.

cheers, i have writen to an english firm who do ply and resin designs, but i thought i would come to this site first as the technical help is so good and easy to use and comunicate.

the english site has a yahoo groups message board but it does'nt quite do it. this one is much better.

some of the advice on here is awsome, it is such a shame we lost the earlier posts some years ago as there was a lot of good question and answers there too.

thanks.
alex.

I used to share shop space with Vincent Lo, a local dragon boat builder. His boats are pretty distinctive but still have a lot of traditional flavour to them. Here's his site:

He builds bigger (24 paddler) boats than you're looking for, but he's a wealth of info.
