Nice work on the pontoons. The natural finish turned out great.

I'm working on a 16' Huck and was wondering how aggressive you were with your fairing. It seems that a lot of material needs to be removed especially rear the stem. Not sure if I should add wood to make the ply fit well or fair leaving a near triangle on the sheer/ chine?

Also, did you glass the toons or use epoxy only?

First off welcome aboard. :D

It has been some time since I did my fairing so bare with me. (excuse me for a moment, huss Oyster    ) I didn't have to fair much at the stern. By the time I built the middle pontoon I knew how to cut my notches so the sheer and chine fit better. Most of the fairing I had to do was at the bows. Post some pictures so we can see what you have. This was the first time I had to do any fairing so I was a little nervous, but in the end I cut a 2'x4' piece of plywood and used it as my guide.
Oh yeah thanks. I'm still sealing the stain. I will fiberglass next. :D

Well, the rain put all boat work on hold today. Can't complain we need it bad. So while doing some much needed C&C work I remembered how when doing my final hand sanding on the false stem of the middle toon that the sanding dust would fill in my staple holes. I got a small piece of 220 and lightly sanded the stem and applied a light coat of epoxy. While not completely sealing the staple holes I'm pleased. :D I'm guessing that while applying the epoxy some of the dust was picked up and some settling happened. Also, I like how the darkened sapele matches up with the stained plywood.

Well, fiberglassing has finally started. While it is only the transom of the smaller toon, it is a start. Ladies and gentlemen we have wetout. :D

I sanded the bottom of the glassed middle pontoon today and I found a new way of getting rid of the dust.

Good question, John, it looks like it is 'floating' rather high. I wonder if this is a photoshop trick or maybe Chip has developed a new method of antigravity propulsion

Dave,
I'm not calling that a launch, I'm calling it "barely afloat".   I still want to go with electric, but the Admiral now wants to cruise the local lakes with it. So now I don't know if it will be outboard powered or a combination of the two. :D

Have you not noticed that your grocery bill has gone down a little? You might want to keep the help on task finishing the inside.

Another patient is in the operating room for glass surgery. :D It is the main port pontoon. This time we did someting different. Instead of trying to move several projects and clean the whole garage we cleaned and sectioned off one side. 8)
