Anticipated boats for the Gathering

Postby Oyster » Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:31 pm

I think that a thread dedicated for showing the boats thats already planning to be at the park would help others that may or may not have one to decide to come or consider at minimum a day trip if not for the full weekend to visit.
So step up and post a picture of your boat. thanks

Oh my boat will not be a Glen=L design. I am mainly bringing a truck load of opinions since this will probably be in short supply from the lists and will be one of those folks that will be pirating others and storing them in a database for future use .  :P

Sounds good!

Is this the 350 or 283?

Will you be running it at The Gathering?

Unfortunately the high-winding 283 we built up for the boat developed a major knock when we fired it up last weekend. We pulled the engine last Saturday, tore it down but couldn't pinpoint the problem. The block will have to go to another machine shop for an assessment before we reassemble it. Time is tight if we want to make the Gathering, so Colin lent me a .030 over 350 short block running forged components. We freshened it up by honing the cylinders and installed new piston rings, bearings and gaskets. I'll be retiring on the 30th so we'll be on the boat full time after that.

You don't suppose it wasn't quite as high-winding as you anticipated, do you? Ok, I'm just kidding with you. I couldn't resist that.
Isn't it amazing!! The person that never has the fortitude to pursue his own dreams, will be the first to try and discourage you from pursuing yours.

Paul, your better off with the 350. You get 60 plus cubes (which is always a good thing) and since most SBC look the same you can still tell people its a 283  8)

I thought and was hoping the Glen-L boats would be the top of the order for lurkers and gawkers. And since I don't got one as a main one, I can't post one. :(

On a different note there is another fellow on another forum that has a steel ketch and a really nice rowing skiff that will be coming to visit that has a place on the lake. He tells me that there is a group that gets together that weekend for a fall colors trip north on the lake and river. So if things go as planned, there will be some lake lurkers there to catch the latest boats at the gatherings.
