International Antique and Classic Boat Gathering in WI

Postby Roberta » Wed Jan 26, 2011 7:27 am

The weekend after our G5 on Lake KickaJack is the internatioal boat meet sponsored by the ACBS and will be held on Lake Geneva at the Abbey Resort in Wisconsin. Here is a link for those who might be interested.

The ACBS also includes boats like ours that are "New" hand built classics.

Bill, Lately I wish I could get out of there. I think I put the pain in paint. But I'm learning through trial and error. Mostly error, latley. But I'll get it right yet.

Lake Geneva is only about 30 minutes from our house, so this will be nice and close.

I got a chance to talk to members of the Glacier Lakes chapter of the ACBS and was warmly invited to join. Looks like another nice boating crowd.

That event will be held at Table Rock Lake in Sept 2012. I suspect my local chapter of ACBS that I participate in will be asking for assistance.

So I am anxious to see all these greats boats.

ACBS puts on some nice shows. That is where I met Butch B and Dave B.

The IL Blackhawk chapter puts on a show on Lake Geneva every fall at the Abbey. This year the WI Glacier Lakes chapter is pitching in because this is the BIG ONE. I imagine now that I joined the Glacier Lakes chapter I will be helping out. Should be a great show. The Abbey resort is very nice and they really support the show with plenty of boat parking.

Dave, You should swing by this one on your way back from G5.

Well, the Admiral has ruled. We will be doing the detour. YIKES. So leaving the G5 and heading straight to Lake Geneva and arrival on Monday and staying thru the whole week. We have at least 10 people from my local ACBS Chapter attending. My son is coming up from St. Louis and wants to do the river cruise thru Chicago. Admiral is not too anxious about that.

I have created a beast with the Admiral. She is all about these events now. Gotta go hide my wallet.

I think this will be an incredibly fun event. The Abbey is a nice resort and there are a bunch of great restaurants in the area. The side tours look like loads of fun, too.

Roberta:

Do you have to be a member of the ACBS to attend this event? I noticed on the application for tickets they ask for your member number. I would expect some of the dinners/tours are for members only, but what about just looking at the boats?

Thanks.

I walked right out onto the docks to look at the boats at the annual ACBS show on my home lake this year and I'm not a member. It was hosted by the Blue Ridge Chapter. I took around 100 photos and talked to folks. Things like the dinners and the raffles were for members only.

Let me know when you are going to be there! I'll wave from the river bank! I live 10 miles north of the city, and we are in all the time.

We will be launching downtown Chicago about 9am on Tuesday, cruising the river and then locking thru to the lake for lunch up on that historic boat.
