Today was the big day to take the boat off the trailer for two reasons. First to test things out and second to allow for work on the trailer so it could be towed without damaging the boat. I found that I needed to change the height of the supports on the trailer as the boat moved forward last year when it filled with water on the road. Motor runs great but the trans doesnt work. So much for a rebuilt trans. I called the shop that sold it to me and of course they are out of business. So out comes the trans and off to the shop it goes. This isnt as bad work wise as it sounds as I have already had it out once so twice will be "easy". It just wont allow the boat to make G5 this year. I am thinking about flying up and was wondering if there were any souls that would be interested in picking up two of us at the local airport?

I have no doubt we will come to pick you up. What do you believe will be your schedule?

Would like to come in Thursday afternoon sometime. Whatever works for others. And no we're not bringing the Stearman.

Is there enough room to take off & land down in the canyon there?

You know ,what with the mountains/hills?

I cant believe a Velvetdrive is just plain bad. Is the rotation setup right? got good oil? all the simple stuff?
I not doubting your t-shooting, but I got one for $50 off Ebay and I been flogging it for 5 years now.
those trannys are so bullit proof I cant believe it is unuseable.

I am with Kens. Tell us more about what it is doing. They are just a small hydraulic pump with a valve to pressurise either forward or reverse piston, which locks the friction plates together. As Kens said, check the pump rotation. It is on the engine side of the trans and gets unbolted and rotated to suit either engine rotation. It may be an air-lock. Make sure it is full of oil or even overfull initially to get the pump primed.
Let us know what you have found so far.

Put trans in gear and at idle nothing. After reving the engine up to 2500 to 3000 rpms trans turned very slowly and the same direction no matter if it's in reverse or forward. Trans is slightly overfilled. I thought I would need some fluid for the cooler and lines.

Could it be the spool valve? (shift valve)
There is test ports on the top of the tranny. You can put pressure guages there and read hydraulic pressures F-N-R.

The spool valve appears to go in only one way. i will check the pressure tomorrow.
