Looks like it was an epic good time!

I'm sooooo looking forward to making it next year, wherever the venue is!

Hard to beat Knoxville for just plain pretty though.

Great pics and videos gang! Way to represent!

How many Zips were there?

Perhaps the slowest Zip build in Glen-L history...

What a great time as always. It was so much fun to see everyone again and to meet some new faces who are making plans to come back already. Thanks to everyone who works so hard to make this happen. For those of you who didn't make it this year(UPSPirate)....What were you thinking?! Hope to see you all again next time, come by the sailing BARge for a drink.

As I was looking through all the photos, I noticed a really nice Zip that I had never seen here before. vupilot tells me this guy showing up was a total surprise and he has never even posted on the forum. The boat looked really nice.

If you are speaking of the Zip with the Maple laminated windshield brackets, you are correct. a total surprise & it is beautiful.

Ok, folks

I learned 2 things yesterday and answered one question. There was a gent that rode on Midnight several times and wanting to build one. He planned to use it on the coast which meant open water.

1. Lesson #1 - NOPE. I had the misfortune of locking out of Chicago yesterday into Lake Michigan with 15 knot easterly winds. The seas were very nice - at 3'and 4' rollers!!!!! I could not even get the nose up on plane for fear of tearing Midnight apart crashing down the next trough. So I had to idle back to the marina which meant that every single frigging wave came over the windshield. So if you have a desire to build a Riviera to use in open water - be warned. But then to be honest. There were several 30' boats that turned around in the harbor refusing to go out as well. What a day!!!

2. Lesson #2 - Water and iPhones don't mix - My phone is ruined and I hope that I can retrieve all my photos from the G. So post your pics please so I can steal from you.

Take the battery out and dry everything as much as possible, shaking it too. Then pack it in about one inch of rice completely around it for about 24 to 48 hours in a ziplock or one of those plastic storage containers from Glad. It seems to work if you get to it quickly enough. You are right, these are play boats simluar to those sunday crusiers that you remove from your garage on just the right occasions.

I'm just glad the truck got you home. Tough trip, I'm sure.

I hope you avoided the worst of the rain. I filled the Tornado up with 4 hours of hard rain between Interstate 24 and Memphis.

On the long drive back home, Colin was threatening to join the Forum and relate some of our antics. I see that he followed through ...

A little background on the Gilligan and Skipper story : On Saturday night I asked Gayle if she had any spare Glen-L caps as mine blew off and sank on one of our runs. She replied that no, she didn't have any caps. On Sunday morning I recalled that Glen-l used to sell a Gilligan hat. I was still feeling the effect of too much alcohol from Saturday night so my speech filter wasn't turned on. I asked her if she had an "f'n hat". She looked me in the eye and replied emphatically that yes, she had "an f'n hat" and set out to fetch me one. On Sunday night Dwain the Skiiiii Kiiiiing donned his Skipper hat. Didn't take too long before someone renamed the Hot Rod to the SS Minnow. We now had the Minnow, Skipper, Gilligan and Mechanic. All we needed was to find a Maryann. Bob Maskel almost hurt himself laughing ...

It will take forever to live this one down and salvage my image, but we all had a really good chuckle. Thanks for the hat, Gayle !

G5 was the best one yet ! I'd like to thank everyone who attended and made it happen. I'll post a Trip Report and pics in a few days.

...and the last few. I had a fantastic time at the Gathering. I was amazed at the beauty of the boats I saw there, and am truly thankful for those I got to ride in!
