Mega-Thank's to all those who made G5 a WONDERFUL event!

Postby John B » Sun Sep 18, 2011 10:59 am

A VERY special Thank you to the organizers of the Gathering 2011! I'd try to name you all so everyone would know just who is responsible for such a great few days on and near the water, but I'm in the Atlanta airport right now enjoying a greyhound (no, that's NOT something sexual, Duane) and I'm afraid that I'd forget to name someone.

Also, THANK YOU to everyone who attended and shared their boats, their food, their stories and their personal warmth with us all. The boats are what bring us to the Gathering, but it's the PEOPLE who keep bringing us back!

All the best to everyone, and safe trip home to all,

-- John B

Oh, BTW, I'm not going to comment on the craftsmanship of Roberta's boat (PLENTY of people will be speaking admiringly of it) but her brats and kraut were AMAZING...

Not to forget KENT's Alaskan salmon, and KenS's low country boil (it was better than ever) and...and...
oh now I've got myself in trouble again 'cause I'm not remembering who made what, but the bottom line is that my tummy was VERY happy for the past few days..... :D

It was really good to see you, KENT, you're quite a guy, KENT, you know why I'm doing this, KENT....

Thanks to all who helped the handicapped unload and load his truck. I'm going to take a nap now. More later!

It was a cruel joke to shut down the site so those of us who could not attend were totally shut out

What? The site was down...hmmm guess if you were at the gathering you didn't notice.

Had a great time...got home about 12:30 this morning after 13 hours on the road and was still jazzed up about all the good times I had. Spent a total of 12 hours and 14 minutes on the water...went through about 25 gallons of fuel from all the rides. I grinned ear to ear the whole time.

G5 was an AMAZING EVENT!!!! The food was all awesome and a GREAT TIME was had by all who could make it. I apologize to those I promised a ride in Oliver IV. I had some trim issues that will be corrected by G6 and I will make good on those rides. I will bring more brats and kraut to G6, too!!

As usual, I did not get to ride all the boats that I wanted. I just know that my credit card shows almost $200 in burnt fuel but burning fuel in your own boat is a good thing. It was so wonderful being with everyone again. The family is getting so big and so strong. So next year, if I come, I will leave Midnight at home so I can ride everyone else's and burn their fuel for them.

Right now, 660 miles, 11hrs 20 minutes on the road and settled in at Abbey Resort on Lake Geneva for the ACBS International Show. Just bumming today to rest up from a week of pure fun with everyone.

Ok, now everyone else needs to post their pics. I did not get many as I should have but cannot figure out why!!!!!

I said I'd be back.

Thanks to Chris and Heather Atwood, Bob Maskel, Allen Blackwell, Colin Whitworth and others for helping me unload and load the truck. Great help to the one armed guy.

Thanks to ALL the food people!

And, Thanks for just coming. I'm proud to know this group.

We're home... safe and sound.... I hope everyone else got back OK too...

It was a great weekend... lot's of great new boats to see, and lots of interesting new characters to meet.

Thanks for everyone's friendship and hospitality. (Bergy... great G&Ts!!)
