I confirmed with Leann that I am in floating cabin #25.

As a newbie to a Gathering, I was wondering what time the river cruise to Chattanooga takes place on Thursday or whether it could be done on Friday?
I was planning to drive down Friday AM. It appears to be a 6 hour drive. I could leave real early on Friday or possibly leave early on Thursday if the timing works out.
Thanks.

Dave,

Our friends Richard and Karen Cabral (who came with us to G5) have informed us that they called Hales and reserved a one-bedroom land cabin for themselves for G6. I don't know the cabin #, but I think they also asked to wait-listed for a floater, too.

Gayle and I hope to have (all of) our offspring attend with us for G6, so we'll be packing out the "3" bedroom floater we have reserved.

Thanks again for being such an efficient and effective organizer! :D

I not sure I can attend. I got deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan. This sucks.
I just saw Xmass mass in a tent with the soldiers, we all need to tip our hats to these guys.
Did I mention this sucks?

Kens please let us know if you are with a group that participates in "Goodies From Home" so to speak. While there is no such recognized program with that name, there are certain groups locally that we participate with and we are always looking for individuals, many without a lot of family that are also deployed.

If you are with a helicopter group, or groups that repair them we also have a close friend thats also working there on contract. If there is something that you need or something out of the ordinary that the guys would like for pleasure, send the need or needs by PM and it will be on its way.

For anyone reading check this site out, if you have some free time messing on the net. This is just one site but also has generated some long lasting and unforgivable family friendships. If for some reason you feel the need to go a bit further and send a note or a box, then thats fine too. 8)

My number 2 son is in Afganastan and has been three times to Iraq. He says the troops really appreciate anything you do. He is one of the sf instructors so we dont worry so much anymore.

I am maintaining the RC-12X's (King-Air 200) right on the airfield. I hadnt heard of the link Oyster sent, it looks cool. The USO has a similar thing going on. I'll follow up on that next time I get over that way.
I just got here Dec 21, and talking to the other guys, several of them have interest in boats, .........if I had a Glen-L calendar I would gladly hang it up on the wall...........

Moderators,,,,,,this is sort of hijacking the original post about Hales Bar; move this portion over to a new topic if you want. Maybe a topic re: our troops, we all should thank them for what they do.

One more group thats around at least in the southern part of the country and at minimum is no effort except for about 12 bucks a box gets a willing participant to pay for the shipping only of one box, a small task for most anyone. Of course you can do more if you would like.

The volunteers actually pack and do the declaration forms to the dedicated members of all armed services overseas which is required for each and every box and all you do is to pick them up at the front of many post offices and take them to the clerk and pay the fee. This appears to be one of the few things that the powers to be allows on Post office property in some form of solicitation that I have found anyway. But its a natural for anyone after numerous people find out about this simple act of kindness as many folks rarely know about the programs.

Old Aussie Australia

Just a couple of questions , whats the weather like at lake Nickajack in September, hot or cold,
and are there any large towns or cities near by where we could get accommodation , if we just hapened to be in
that area at that time of year. I would love to be there and look at those beautiful boats in person,
there just could be a couple of Aussies there this year.

Chattanooga, Tennesee is very close by. There are hotels in the area of Nickajack. How many of you? We sometimes have people sharing cabins. Lauren and I have a 3 bedroom land cabin and Vlad has a room.

In September, the summer heat has broken and at night a light jacket might feel good. The water is still a nice temperature.

If you get there this group will see that you get taken care of.
