Actually, it is a easy run. You just go upriver until you see Cchhatenooga.
It better to leave early, you get better water that way, quiet and serene very early.

Later, and the wind can kick up and some stretches of river get choppy.

1.5 to 2 hrs is reasonable time for the run. (its 33miles on the river chart)
If a bunch of boat people gonna make a 2hr run + fuel stop + lunch downtown + balogny talking + return trip then we got to leave 9 am to get back to HB in time for supper on the dock.
(I like to tap the kegs about 5pm on the dock)
Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!

It really is a fun trip, and lunch is great. The more the merrier, and I can take a passenger or two. This is the pic from last year...heck, I'd even consider going both days if there are folks that want to do that!

I will be in late Wed night or early Thurs morning. The Mexican restaurant Ken mentions is a great way to spend a little while Thurs evening...see you all in a few days!! :!:

Safe travels to all!!

I definitely want to do it this year! Either day is fine with me...we should be rolling in around 8-9 Thursday morning. I've never locked through anything so traveling with someone experienced would be helpful. I can take 2-3 depending on if Kent makes the run with me.

There are always plenty of people back at the Marina going for rides and having a good time on the dock, you wont feel left out. I will probably go a few miles into the river run to try and get some good photos/video while everyone is running but will turn around and go back to Hales bar after a half hour or so.

I know everyone is planning to go to Big River Grill & Brewery on the river run, and it's certainly a nice place to go.

I just wanted to point out another nearby option, with some more "ecclectic" restaurants that may be interesting to some of you... The Bluff View Art District is just uphill from the public dock downtown. The River Walk goes from the dock right up to it.

Restaurants include the Back Inn Café, Tony's Pasta, and Rembrandt's Coffee Shop. All are next door to the Hunter Museum of Art. The food at these restaurants is likely to be better than what you'll find at Big River, but also more expensive. If you're looking for something that is "uniquely" Chattanoogan, Bluff View is one of the city's trendiest little art enclaves. I thought it was worth mentioning, since many of you are coming from out-of-town. Here's a link for those interested:

The area look's really nice and worth the walk around for the views. Unfortunately two of the restaurants aren't open for lunch on Friday. The Italian one is.

Of the restaurants up there, Tony's would be the best able to accommodate a sizable group... It also has the most relaxed atmosphere & outdoor seating as an option.

I'm uploading a HD video clip to YouTube right now of about 11:30 minutes or so of the 1 1/2 hour river run from Hales Bar to Chattanooga. I'll post the link here shortly. What a great day with good people, nice weather, and smooth water.
