So I finally got started planking last night. The fairing was a long, drawn out process (ugh, I really disliked doing the fairing), so I hadn't touched my epoxy in about a month.

When I tried to pump out some resin last night, the pump was really, really stiff. And the resin that came out was thicker than normal, and looked cloudy, like it already had some fillers mixed in.
I looked inside the can, and the epoxy inside looked ok, it was just the stuff in the pump body that was a thick mess.

Is this normal? Is the epoxy going bad somehow?

I don't know your brand or how the resin is contained. But nope, the resin can and has probably crystalized. ALl you need to do is to place the container in super hot water or even place the jug if applicable in a microwave with a lid on it. The amount in the pump can be cleaned out if the pump has a screw off cap section.

It's poxy-shield (still in the original can) with a west-system pump.
What's in the container still looks good, so maybe I'll just try cleaning out the pump.

Just so I'm clear, 'crystalized' resin is still fully functional, right? (i mean once you get it to a working consistency)

FWIW, In 2011, I used about 1/2-gallon of West Epoxy that was from 2006. It worked just fine. I never had the stuff get too thick or crystallized on either of my boats (West and MAS epoxy), but I did read that you could heat it up.

Yes sir, cold weather does this, and with the small amount of resin stuck in the small area of the pump mechanism this probably created some crystalizing. White vinegar is a non toxic chemical that will clean your parts when you get it taken apart to Denatured Alcohol.
