Sweating while using epoxy

Post by Tony Hain » Sun Sep 29, 2013 6:41 pm

When using liquid epoxy after only a few minutes I break into a profuse sweat. Just pouring off me, yet when I use gel epoxy I don't have a problem. Is it just me or do others find this too. Curious?

I don't do that. But, Please use a tyvek suit and vapor mask.

What Bill said! Add nitrile or other skin protective gloves to that. I had a friend that developed a severe allergy to epoxy. I'm not sure whether it was from fumes or skin contact, but it nearly killed him!

He was building an airplane made with fiberglass/epoxy and switched to a so called "safe-t-poxy. This was some years ago and I'm not sure of it's suitability for boat building. Do some research and proceed with caution.

I also developed an allergy. I get a sore throat and my eyes get burned. My eyelids also burn and the skin peels off. If I need to use marine epoxy now, I wear a respirator and wear goggles. No skin or perspiration problems though.

Thanks Jason. So I'm not the only one! And thanks to everyone else for your advice. I 'm fairly careful handling the epoxy, but it's easy to get slack and think "She'll be right mate!"

Tony,

I'm like you, the water works turn on. I just try to limit the drips in the epoxy. I leave my DNA sealed in every layup, ...

This is my main complaint ! I wear glasses and when working I sweat like crazy and the sweat drips on the inside of my glasses. I am wearing a head band and wont help ,I think you just stress about the time thing with epoxy combined with the work. I have 2 shirts outside and I alternate them.it gets on your nerves when your trying to get things done and you cant see because your sweating like you have a gun to your head.LOL   im working with epoxy sweating my ass off and cant see> fun stuff :!: and I take my glasses off with sticky epoxy covered gloves :!:  but im almost done with it.HEY I GLUED MY GLASSES TO MY HEAD!! at least I know where they are :!:
