Hi,

Can I use any wood filler to fill screw holes and gaps on the hull of my boat prior to covering with Epoxy?
Im using West System epoxy and I was wondering if there were certain types of filler that I shouldn't use?

I would avoid any oil based fillers. You could use sanding dust mixed with resin to make a filler. There are many two part epoxy based fairing compounds out there as well. They are easier to apply and sand.

I like System Three Quick Fair or, if I want some extra strength, like in fillets , I use their Easy Fillet. Both available through Glen L.

Poxy Grip or Poxy Shield with saw dust is an easy and color appropriate option.

I just bought some Famowood to use based on some recommendations elsewhere. Will it darken like mahogony does, though, when epoxy is applied to it?

:D I used Epoxy Shield and silica and microballoons .even tried sawdust.Everthing worked good .Make sure you mix the hardener and resin thoughly(about 2 minutes) then slowly add the powder mixes.I mixed equal amounts of silica and micro ahead of time and then added to resin mix.should be like peanut butter the video says.

I used Mahogany Famowood to fill my screw holes and when I finished staining the sides you could not see the filled holes.

match fillers to wood that has not been freshly planed so you get a closer color match. the famowood is used by many with success, but i prefer using epoxy filler if i am using epoxy to encapsulate the hull. more likely to shrink and expand at the same rate over time
