Epoxy over oil stained wooden island top

Postby eva1992 » Fri Jul 10, 2015 6:04 pm

Hello! I recently purchased an island custom made by some one and the top is all boards, it was stained dark walnut with min wax oil stain then sealed with poly. I am wanting the super shiny, sleek, soft feel almost like butcher block and to fill in some of the cracks between the boards What is the best way to go about this? Would epoxy be safe to use and apply or is there something else i should do?

I wouldn't put epoxy over the top of poly. You'd have to check with the manufacturer to see if it is compatible with the stain. A lot of times they are not. Not sure if epoxy is going to give you a "soft" feel. Not exactly sure what you mean by that.
