Fillets before or after encapsulation?

Post by BillS » Mon Mar 28, 2016 7:42 am

My Fold Up build doesn't call for fillets but I thought it wouldn't hurt to reinforce some attachment blocking that will be exposed to some abuse when the boat is in fold up mode. Do the fillets go on bare wood or should at least 1 coat be applied first?

Going by the book you would want to brush on some unthickened epoxy before you do your fillets so that the wood wont wick the epoxy out of your thickened mix. You only need to wait a minute or so. How critical that really is I have no idea. I've done it everytime I've glued something anyways though.
