That is a HUGE lake. It's too far for me to go though.
The idea makes me wish I was able to do it.

2013 is pretty much out for me, but 2014 is wide open. Spring is very beautiful there as everyhting is blooming and it is green and all those beautiful colors. Fall is nice because the water is warmer, but the landscape is really burned out. Still have all the colors of the terrain, though. Summer is nice because the water level is higher making the passage past Castle Rock open and cutting off a long distance to the better scenery and Dangling Rope Marina. But it is the busy time of the year and discounts won't be available. I would vote for Spring 2014 in early May, but Fall would be OK, too, around late September. This gives a lot of time for planning.

Just checking. The Castle Rock cut-off is still open so Fall would be fine, too, for easier access

I'd love to go, ... All the lakes around  me have a 35mph speed limit, ... Good thing the nice people running the marina so far have turned their heads to the speed limit for me because the boat is unique to them. Although, ... harbor patrol might not think the same.

I really need to find a lake to open the Spartan up. Right now I'm doing some modifications to the hull by adding an air trap so I can get more air under her and really get those sponson's flying instead of skipping... which should put her up into the 60's, ... not that I want to go that fast, ... but if it does, ... that will just mean I have the hull and motor dialed in correctly.

I'll post the mod pictures on the build thread in a few days.

One thing that was on the menu was a real life jacket. The one I have been using is rated up to 50mph, ... which I have already easily passed, ... 8)

I bought a Lifeline kneel down jacket. I got a SCREAMING deal on it. They have them selling for $640 and I got it for $300. It is their newly discontinued model with a lobster tail protection for the butt. BTW, .. they have 3 left at that price for anyone looking to get a high speed kneel down life jacket.

8) I just check Utah boat regs and never seen any speed restrictions on lake Powell or most lakes in the state only a few have any speed restrictions.

The Wah Weap Resort and Marina is a great place for the base of the gathering. They have a great hotel and several restaurants. The campground is amazing and the marina rents every kind of boat imaginable for those wanting or needing a boat, kayak, houseboat, or jet ski. Page is just a few miles away and has several grocery stores, and an airport. Not to mention scenery just out of this world.

Here in Southern California, ... they all have a 35mph limit with the exception of the Colorado river.

Funny thing is, ... most of the drunks are at the river, ...

I've flown (been flown) into Page twice. We approached from the north over the lake. We came in lower than the airport and popped up to land. That's a strange feeling.

We flew the RV-7A into Page in 2004. That was the year we did our biggest SW trip, doing Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and all the states from Wisconsin. Truly an epic flight in a home built plane with only 25 hrs on it when we started. Lake Powell, the Grand Canyon, The Rockies, Monument Valley, all just incredible. Can't wait to get back to Lake Powell. We plan on making a big time of this Gathering and plan to get to the North Rim and Monument Valley at the very least. Both day trips from Page, AZ. Bryce Canyon, Zion, and The Grand Staircase are also do-able. But the Lake will keep you spellbound all the while you're there.

We took a motorcycle trip through Valley of the Gods, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Page, etc, a few years back for our anniversary. Breathtaking!

I'm not sure if boat haul from Wichita is in the cards, but we'll see how it develops.

This isn't gonna die, Rod. There will be a 2014 Gathering on Lake Powell, even if I'm the only boat. I need a SW fix and Lake Powell is just the cure I need.
