Lake Macquarie sounds like the go, it's a terrific water way. Lake Macquarie is just a little South of Port Jamie, probably need to allow another hour travel time from Sarina...........see you there.

Have looked at the site. I think for our first gathering it is perfect! The NSW's clubs are notoriously cheap to eat at so virtually the catering is taken care of. I'm certain a deal could be worked out with the club for use of facilities on the jetty and in the club ("Job Lot" you might say) So from here we need to start a register of who can come(How many), number of boats likely and a few likely accommadation places (if we know how many, we could negotiate on this as well).
I wont be finished my Tahoe by then but will be there.

PS Saw a Higgins 23 somewhere on this site. Seriously thinking about making the Tahoe a convertable!

I have sent them an email to get their feelings on the subject. Will see what comes back. Are any of our members locals to be able to check it out????

Hate to drop him in it, but what about Tim Major. I got the impression that he was North Shore?

I know it is a tough job to have to go to a club and "test the facilities" but hopefully someone will be man enough to do it.
Tim should be close I think but not sure how close. The kicker will be how much leeway they have in appropriate use of the facilities (insurance etc.), and also the accomodation prospects. Maybe everyone attending will have to become a member to access it. Because the accomodation is not right on the dock we may have to get some security during dark hours to ensure the boats aren't tampered with.
What are the speed restrictions in the area??? I am hoping Gentry will be available and Neel has presented me with a speed record

Lake Macquarie would be excellent. I grew up on the NW corner in the late 70s/early 80s till my folks sold their business and went "bush". In the 90s when I moved back to Newcastle for uni, I went by our old house which was only a couple hundred meters from the lake's edge and a sailing club, it brought back fond memories. I couldn't help but ring them up and ask them "what on earth were they thinking by leaving."

Anyhow, really not sure what's available these days for the purpose of a GTG. Haven't been back since 2005 maybe. I remember marinas at Marmong Point and Toronto. But skipping through their sites, there doesn't seem to be accomodation, unless I've misread them. The Classic Boat Festival at Toronto during Easter looks fun but no doubt packed with people and participants. Perhaps too busy and too soon. If October next year looks like a goer, I'll do my darndest to get there, hopefully with malahini-in-tow.

Hi Tony, yep, North Shore.............Sydney. Around 1 1/2 hrs south of Lake Macquarie. We do have a fellow builder at Lemon Tree Passage which is close by...Gidday Peter. Peter may be able to give us the drum. I also have an aquantance (my stainless guy actually) who lives at Lake Macquarie. He may have a few clues. I'll follow it up.

Just curious if we have any progress on checking out facilities at Port Macquarie and if it is still a goer for 2013
