We're starting to get close, about 2 months. Real plans will be made soon. Many people are already committed (Or should be). We think they've made a number of improvement. They're working on a new boat ramp at the marina and addressing our concerns.

In a few weeks we'll start talking food. So, think about that.

Look forward to seeing you,
Bill

I will start the list for you Bill... I will be arriving at Hales Bar on 9/15 and departing on 9/22. There will be two of us (so far), my friend from way back in High School, Craig Fleming and me. We have booked one of the three-bedroom land cabins half way up the hill. I will show up with my Gentry. We are planning on making the River Run Friday morning to Chattanooga for lunch. I know I owe many boat rides, so I will make sure to fill her up before the weekend. Really looking forward to G-8.... Neel

Hello All,,,, Just a little update on conditions at Hales Bar. I spoke to Courtney at the marina today and she said all items on our list of requested repairs and improvements have been completed with the exception of fixing up the docks. There is a good possibility that Hales Bar will have new owners in September. Final word on that will be available on September 1st. At that time a decision will be made as to exactly what improvements will be made to the docks prior to our arrival. She said that everything on our list should be checked off by 9/16. I think Chris (vupilot) had a great idea that each of us bringing boats to G-8 should bring a few swimming noodles which we can string together along the dock to form a continuous fender. Also if we each bring a couple small Harbor Freight cleats with us, we could secure them to the dock with deck screws for tying up. Those two things would work just in case the docks have not been improved from last year. I am planning on arriving at Hales Bar on Monday afternoon, 9/15, and plan to go over the list with Courtney on the 16th. Hopefully everything will be up to our expectations, but if not, I will do whatever I can to get them that way before Thursday, 9/18.

Everyone please make your reservations ASAP and add your name on the list on the thread started by Bill Edmundson, "Who is coming". I will stay in touch with the marina and report my findings back to the forum. Should be a great time....Neel

Neel

Thanks for keeping up with this! I had already planed on bringing a few cleats to just leave. Swim noodles are a great cheap idea. I'll grab a few. I have some inexpensive poly line to string some of them. Maybe, combine this with a demo on tying a Flemish loop.

I have to get a new canopy too.

I have a sailboard that I would sell. This thing is big enough to be a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP). It's an Alpha (Hobie) 230 liter board. It has a fiberglass mast, 5 meter sail (lanteen rig), swing dagger board. All in great shape. The sail rig could be adapted to a small sailboat.

If someone is interested I'll bring it to the Gathering. I'd like to get $200 and get it out of my basement.

Well, I have a new canopy for the Gathering. Mine went away last year.

I will be bringing the one that was damaged in "Hurricane G7". I replaced the broken pieces and it is good to go. Hopefully good weather for the entire weekend this year!

Vupilot suggested that we bring swim noodles to make dock bumpers. I just bought six. That should cover about 30 feet of the dock. I plan to buy 7 cleats to hang them and tie off to.

You can get 4 galvanized 8" cleats on Amazon.com for $25. That's a cheap insurance policy.

Ok. I can't remember if this a Flemish loop or a Flemings loop. They are pretty easy to do. A bowline loop reduces the rope strength about 25%. Three cable clamps reduce the strength about 20% if put on properly and are never used for lifting. These provide 100% of the rope strength. Normally, I use some whipping to just dress it up. But, these are just temporary. I'll just tape them.

Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!
