By the time everybody gets together, gets running, arrive, get tied up at the dock, refuel as required, then it is a 2 hour run.(lots of stories telling going on)

11am start would be a 1pm arrival, though.
I dont think we have ever returned before about 6pm. (and we left at 9am)
Yup, I think its 46 river miles. Some guys run in the 30+ mph range, mine certainly can, but is more comfortable in the 24-26 mph range, making the trip a solid 1.5-2 hours for me. Like Ken said, by the time folks get to Chattanooga, get gas, find a spot to dock, wander up to and get seated at the restaurant, etc, it takes time. Last year by the time we got back, some folks had already started dinner. I sure wouldn't plan on leaving anytime AFTER 11. 2 years ago we had tentatively planned on getting ready in the water around 9 or so, and it was 10:30 by the time everyone was ready to leave!

Bob

What are you complaining about? Last year you rode. :) Sure was fun.

But, you're right. I do cook on Friday night and it makes it a challenge.

Sounds like we should make an effort to depart by 10 AM. Can everyone make that?

At which restaurant are you planning to have lunch on Friday? I hope to get into Chattanooga about noon and may be able to meet folks there.

In the past it has been the Big River Grille just up from the riverfront

In looking at the map it appears Ross's landing is our Chattanooga destination as it seems close to the Big River Grille.
Do we need reservations? Fuel? Is it secure or will our stuff need to be locked-up? Maybe the Chamber of Commerce will spring for our lunch. Brass band?
Just wondering!

Bob, I will see Bob Maskel at Hales Bar a couple days before the run. He has been on many of them and I have only been on the one last year. He will know what arrangements need to be made and we will make sure we have a secure place to dock, lunch reservations, and a way to get fuel for our boats. Not sure about the Chamber of Commerce springing for lunch though ???

I thought I remembered that the dock downtown is a secure dock. Looked back to last years thread and found this post from BarnacleMike about the docking downtown........

I called MarineMax Chattanooga this morning about using the Bluff View dock downtown for the River Run.

Some of you may recall that on last year's River Run, we arrived downtown to find that the dock had a new key-coded locking door. After finding out that MarineMax operates the dock, I'd called them & they were kind enough to give us the passcode to use the dock temporarily for lunch, since the dock was not booked up otherwise.

So, I called them this morning in order to avoid any last-minute confusion like last year. They were very gracious & welcoming, and said they'd be happy to grant us access & the lock passcode again this year (provided the dock is not booked-up with other reservations, which they felt wouldn't be likely on Sept. 20). MarineMax changes the lock code at random, so they said to call them a day or two beforehand & they'd provide the lock passcode. Here's a link to their website & contact number: http://www.marinemax.com/stores/southea ... nooga.aspx

...Hope that gives those who haven't gone before an idea of what to expect and Neel the contact info to get the code. - CA

There are publicly accessible docks also, just a little further up from where we docked last year.

I know the tradition is to trek down to Big River Grille, but I thought I'd mention another possibility. There is a Burger Bar on the 3rd deck of the permanently-moored boat at the Southern Belle. They serve beer, etc, also, and have several dart boards. I haven't eaten there, but I've heard it's pretty good. The ambiance is unique and relaxed, plus you'd be right there on the river, probably in view of your boats.

Well, the Tahoe has made it from Gulf Shores to B'ham. So, we're getting closer.
