I did't use any adhesive putty when the stringers were set? Should I start over to do so?

Iwould use a mixture of thickened epoxy,or polyester if you are using that , to bed the stringers in before I glassed over the stringers.

You can mix some up, set the stringers in place, then glass while the "mush" is still uncured

Does anybody have any information about this boat. There is no identification plate, all I know is that it is an Sunray SV169.

The stringers have already been glassed in place without the beding compound. Is this a problem?

I see Brantford in your location, and some registration numbers that are not USA on the boat,so it would be tough for most of us to identify, unless someone from your local recognizes it

This is what I know.... your right, this was a Canadian company, they are out of business now. Is there any other tricks or applications that can further strengthen the runners to the hull?

1977 SV-169
This outboard runabout is 16.83 feet long and weighs 1000 (pounds dry). This weight does not account for passengers, fuel, or gear. The beam of this craft is 81 inches. The max horsepower for this boat on our records is 100 hp . If you choose to buy a replacement engine for your SV-169 boat, it is recommended by many, that you verify the max horsepower for your boat. This is because of safety reasons - as it would effect the insurability of your outboard boat. Be sure to have the manual for your engine handy, not only for your safety, but to save you money on repair costs.

Your fiberglass hulled boat can be kept in better condition by covering it properly when not in use. This will help to prolong its use and resale value. Proper maintenance and care (and winterization if needed) will also help maintain the usability and value of the craft. As outboard engine life also effects the value of a boat, we have included engine information as well.

Information on this page is provided to you as a free service of iboats.com. Because this information has come from many sources we can not guarantee its accuracy. Even if this information is the same as the original factory specs, boats are sometimes modified. Thus, for safety and other reasons, it is a good idea to verify information here to make sure it matches up with your boat. For additional information, we recommend the iboats forums and a boating safety course. [/i]

Further:

The load capacity is 1,820.

Our planned next steps are as follow:

*Image is of current condition

1) Finish grinding of fiberglass as needed
2) Coat the hull and runners with bilge paint - to prevent water migration
3) Fit and install 5/8 marine plywood flooring
Note: Picture shows level using 3/4" material, actual material will be 5/8" marine plywood. Use 3M-5200 adhesive caulk and seal runners and hull to plywood, for sealing and adhesion.
4) Considering using spray foam between hull and deck
5) Fiberglass top of floor to the hull.
6) Finish coat of marine paint.

I'm interested in suggestions or ideas for insuring sufficient structural strength.

Is there any preparation that I am missing or would be recommended.?

Thanks.

Peter

If I understand you correctly you are just replacing bad wooden stringers. If that is the case then make sure they are encapsulated totally as that seems to be the problem as the FG boats get older. I would think that as long as they are attached with glass then you should be fine. You dont want any places where the glass does not attach firmly. The glass is your stength not the resin so it needs to be a good bond.

John,

As the deck is larger than the standard 4'x8' sheets, what would you recommend for any pattern on the deck floor?

Where the floor abuts the hull - marine caulking under the floor board and fiber glassed on top?

Peter.

Just wanted to forward an update. Got the winter tarp on today. Should be an easy finish in the spring time.

Peter.

Deck is done. The gas tank needed to be pulled out and inspected, open up the front for more repairs.
