Hi I am building the bullet and I have the hull finished except for the fiberglass, and I have seen that some of the builders use micro baloons, and I was just wondering what that is, how you do it, and also the benefits from doing it.

Microballons are blended with mixed resins for fairing the surface of fiberglass or to fill low places under topcoats.
The filler has no structual properties since little resin is required for lots of ballons. So mix small amounts of resin in the learning phase and blend the microballons in small amounts until you get the mix to a peanut butter consistancy. If you are using fast set hardener, spread the blend after you get the right consistancy on a flat surface and then work off of that so that your bulk mix does not kick too soon while in a big mass in a container. I also use a piece of plywood with wax paper stapled around the back side so that the wood will not draw the limited amount of resin out of the mix. Plexiglass works great too. I go to the glass shop and get scraps to work off of in the summer time, which is the worse time of year for premature kicking off.

in a nutshell, microbaloons is a thickener agent to make your resin thick, not runny.
There is a multitude of thickener agents to give about any properties you may want.............thickener, structural, easy sanding filler, easy to spread, even different colors.
your microbaloons is just a basic thickener.
