I have searched but cant find any post on this please help. I have several voids/ delaminations after the first of three layers of epoxy. I made sure that the glass was fully wet out and when I returned a few hours later the epoxy was hard and there are several large pockets in between the ply and the glass. They are 1" to 3" long about 1/2" wide. What is the best way to fix this. Thanks for your help this is my first build and all was going well untill this

First off I see this is your first post so Welcome Aboard. I hate to hear you are having a problem with your fiberglass. After reading your post it leads me to this question. Did you apply the three epoxy coats all at the same time or did you wait until the epoxy tacked up before applying the next coat? I'm just guessing here, but it sounds like either the glass floated or you had some air pockets. I know there is a way to fix this. Post some pictures of the problem and tell us how you plan on finishing the hull. I'm sure someone on here can help you. Good Luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. I only put one coat on so far. It will be a painted hull when finished.
quick question what is the purpose of the the fiberglass on the sides and bottom? I understand it would need it on the seems to give strenght but the boat will be totaly encapsulated to keep the water out. (I am building the 14' Tango Skiff).

Fiberglass on the wood, as I understand it, is to provide surface strength and wear-resistance. Its not so much to make the material stronger (wood is strong enough on its own).. its more of a protective layer of armor.

My first impression when reading about your dry spots was possibly a dusty spot or some kind of surface contaminate. If you can take a photo and upload it to the site we can probably give you some better idea of what to do to avoid it.

Its more than likely repairable.. however you don't want to have to do this more often than necessary.
