I'm not there yet (probably another month before I'm glassing), but I like to read/research/prep ahead of time. :D

From all I've read, it seems to be a good idea to pre-coat/seal the plywood prior to glassing. I guess this helps prevent any dry or epoxy-starved sections of cloth.

So I plan to do this pre-coat, but what I'm wondering is if CPES is a good idea for this?
I'd like to use it for a few reasons:
1) I have some leftover :)
2) It will save me some of my "regular" epoxy
3) It's a whole lot easier to spread (especially over a large area) than normal epoxy
4) It supposedly gives a better bond because of the soaking in... (or so they say)

Of course I don't want to do this if there's any risk of it causing an issue with the fiberglass bond.

So, what say you? Good idea? Bad idea? doesn't matter? ...

Have you used CPES in this manner?

I've been halfway across the internet and back, and have read a lot about it. Many people love CPES, and some think it's snake oil.

Anyway, in regards to using it under the glass, my concern is the timing. From what I've read so far, you have to put the next coat of expoy (in this case, with fiberglass) on before the CPES is fully cured and still in the green stage, but after the out-gassing is mostly done. Otherwise you could have issues with the adhesion? I have no idea how to properly time this. :?

I guess the other option is to wait for it to be fully cured, sand it, and go the mechanical bond route, rather than for the chemical bond.
...or just forget the CPES and use epoxy.

Still not sure what to do. :x
