Just one of my many dumb questions

Postby James P » Tue Feb 28, 2017 12:34 pm

Since I am in the learning process of boat building. I was wondering if I fiberglass the hull will I then have to paint the hull afterwards or will the mahogany color still show through?

If you do a good job of the joinery and fiberglass work, the mahogany will show through and the weave of the glass cloth will disappear. You will still need to use a UV inhibiting coating like poly U or varnish to protect the hull and wood.

Thanks Roberta. I have been reading Glen L's book on building a boat with plywood.
Good stuff that will no doubt answer many of my questions.

No such thing as a dumb question on this blog. We all have the same experience until we learn, keep asking.
