Hi All,

I am restoring a sailing boat with a GRP hull and a wooden deck and cockpit. I will cover the deck with cloth and epoxy when finished with the woodwork, but first I have to rebuild the whole deck and cockpit and also have to restore many of the wooden beams connected to the GRP hull.
Now my question is: should I use epoxy with glass or glass reinforced polyester for connecting the beams (and a couple of boards in the engine compartment) to the GRP hull?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

The advice I've always had from people that were fiberglass repair "pros" was to use epoxy.

Good luck on your restoration, even though not a Glen-L build, many of the things you will go through are common here & we can help if/when needed.

Don't be shy,send pics!!!

Warren

I agree with Warren. I've been watching "Ship Shape TV" whenever I can catch it. Anytime they do any modification to a production FRP boat, they ALWAYS use epoxy. The only time to use polyester is if you're repairing the fiberglass hull itself such as you would for cracks or broken areas.

OK, epoxy it will be then!

Sorry for not owning a Glen-L, but I don't think I've ever seen one where I live (The Netherlands)
I will add my location to the profile just to avoid any confusion...

Thanks for the advice and making me feel welcome anyway. :D
