hello all,
i am building my first boat, the Scooter, and it has been a blast so far. I am learning a lot and have been very satisfied with Glen L instructions and patterns. I am to the point where I am ready to fiberglass the hull but do not have any idea how to start. I have some buddies that have done fiberglass before, but never a boat from scratch. I was going to buy the Glen L fiberglass kit but found a buddy who can get me the resin and cloth MUCH cheaper. My question is basically, where do I start with the glass and how do i pattern the cloth.....i.e. Do I lap the top over the sides, or the sides over the top and bottom or where should the laps be? Also, do I glass the transom area in first? How many layers of resin do I need to put on? Is 6 oz cloth what I need to use? Those are several of my basic questions, and I am sure that I will have plenty more so any extra info you can provide would be great. If Glenn L sells just the instructions on how to glass the scooter, please let me know how i can order it. That would be great. Thanks in advance for your help, jason. :?

I've been reading the "How to Fiberglass Boats" book that I got off the Glen-L site and it has been very helpful. You might start there...but I'm sure there are some other Scooter builders that will chime in. I have a pretty good library going now and find that I read and re-read a lot of these books.

I forgot to mention the DVD...it has helped a lot too. There are also some YouTube videos that are available.
