Well, maybe next year. Louisville isn't too far from Hales Bar. Depending on what is happening in KY, I might be able to come down for a day.

Neel: You'll have to bring "Scooter" up to NJ. We can put her in Lake Hopatcong or Greenwood Lake and try her out. Gas, food and beer are on me. We'll put Lisa in the mother-in law seat and see if she gets wet.

It is amazing to me how so many of us have become real friends, not just members of a forum. I credit the Gatherings for much of that. Thank you to all that have come.

Anyone ever been through the locks on to lake Chicamauga above Chattanooga? Heather and I were thinking about tankering up with fuel and heading on to the lake. Mostly to get comfortable using the lock system. Anyone know the procedure? Do you just pull up and honk twice?

Yeah, I been through there. VHF radio is a good way to call the lockmaster, pretty common.
The Friday River Run for lunch, we will all be right close to the lock anyway.
you would want some good bumpers, the lock walls are rough concrete.
be ready with generous docking lines too, you may have to tie up to the floating cletes.

the lockmaster monitors VHF ch. 14, and the phone 423-875-6230
Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!

I can't speak for locking through. However, on the weekends that lake can get pretty busy... and choppy... from the dam up to Harrison Bay. Generally speaking, the lake down at Nickajack is considerably more placid. Not saying you shouldn't go... just something to keep in mind.

There are 2 marinas on that side of the dam where you can get gas, etc. Also, it's a nice run upriver to Ari's for lunch. (A short distance upriver past Harrison Bay.) http://arisharborlight.net

Why did the boatbuilder get a divorce? Because he didn't have enough clamps to hold his marriage together!
