I have a set of Bear Cat plans and a big dream to build it in the 27'10" version. However the continuing rising cost of aluminum, the price of gas and transporting a boat that size has me thinking about downsizng. I am thinking about something like the wildcat built in a 23' center console type. Is any familiar enough with those two designs to know if I can use the plans for the sponsons for the BC and build a smaller version like the wildcat.
Just a comment about cats in general. I have owned Boston Whalers, Pro-lines, Kencrafts, Capehorns and a few others. I would hate to know I had to go back to using one of those hulls. I currently have a 25 Seacat and love the boat. However it was a hurricane damaged boat and it continues to have some issues. That along with a desire to build a larger scale aluminum boat is why I am thinking of the build. BAck to the cat boat. I was in the Gulf last week diving. The seas were running 3' with a nasty windblown chop in between the swells. I ran 30 mph and was never pounded or wet by a spray in the entire 64 mile round trip. A buddy who was diving with me that day is a FWC officer and has a 27' Boston Whaler boat for his patrol boat. He said if ran that fast in his BW for 60-miles he would not be able to get out of bed the next day. Those cat desigs are all they are made out to be IMO!!
