Can this method be used for any boat, or is it restricted to a tug style hull?

I would say the shrink wrap method can be applied to most of the displacement hull plans offered. The basic method has been around for years in one form or another. ( I used a similar method building a 34' steel sailboat...plans were probably developed in the late 70s) I would think anything over at least 20 ft. would lend to the method..as long as there were plans available. I wouldn't want to try to convert from wood plans, as there would possibly be too many variables in weight and distribution of same.
I also wouldn't be afraid to tackle welding as long as you had a mig welder of the sufficient capacity to do the job...search this forum for a discussion on that. I had never used a mig welder before starting my boat, ( had used other methods for years tho) and had no problems welding 11 guage).
