G-12 Gathering 2018 Dates and Location

Postby Bill Edmundson » Thu Dec 28, 2017 8:00 pm

Third weekend in September. 9/13-16/18

The Gathering has been a Friday to Sunday since the beginning. Many of us come in on Thursday for the river trip to Chattanooga on Friday. So, we added Thursday.

G-12 Hales Bar Marina
Lake Nickajack TN
Sept. 13 to 16, 2018

The Gathering is held at Hales Bar Marina, on Lake Nickajack, south of Chattanooga off I-24. It is the 3rd weekend in September. They have floating cabins, land cabins and RV park. There are other accommodations near by.

They have a big floating patio by the store that has grills available to us. This is where we'll be on Saturday night, weather permitting.

If you book a floating cabin and have a 10'x10' canopy, we encourage you to bring it.

If you book a cabin, you need to tell them that you are with the boat builders group. They have blocked out all the floating cabins for us and some of the land cabins.

Try to come. We usually have around twenty boats. On Friday morning we load up and make the 35 mile run to Chattanooga for lunch.

FAQ

1. Can I come if my boat is not finished? YES
2. Does my boat have to be a Glen-L design? NO
3. Do I have to bring my boat? NO

The Gathering is open to all boat builders. We welcome you even if it's not a Glen-L design, you haven't started, you aren't sure what you want to build, or you just like wooden boats. All are welcome!

Lodging: Hales Bar has floating cabins, land cabins, and RV park. Hales Bar no longer has tent camping. There is a nice county campground not far away. There is a mom & pop hotel a few exits away toward Jasper. There are many hotels in Jasper.

Groceries: Hales Bar has a small store. There is a grocery store up the old road toward Jasper. Larger grocery stores are in Jasper. There is a Walmart in Jasper and there is one if you turn left out of HB on the old highway there is another where it crosses the interstate.

Emergency: There is a hospital a few exits toward Jasper.

Meals: Meals are kind of a coordinated potluck. If you can bring something, great! If you can help the people who bring something, great! If you can help keep things cleaned up, great! We typically have over 60 people.

Staff: Over the years, many of the HB staff have become our friends. Be good to them.

Please Come, Participate, and Have Fun!

8 MONTHES TO GO!

I know that seems a long time. But, for you frozen Yankees, you don't have a lot of working time. (I hope that comment doesn't knock me out of the next Presidential race.) Anyway, there are a lot of boats in the works that I want to see!

I've been working on a graphic for G12 t-shirts, if we do those again this year.

What do you think?

Michael

I like it! I want to use it on the koozies. I like it the way it is. But, what do you think a windshield on the finished side? You may have already looked at that. As I said, I like it right now.

I had wrestled with a windshield originally, but somehow it never looked "right."

I gave it another shot, though.... Here it is with 1/2 of the windshield from Oliver IV. I think this works. Do you like it?

I like it. But, a Butch Barto windshield would not work. It would be too heavy.

Cool design, it gives equal emphasis to the construction side of our hobby.

Pete

We look forward to seeing you again! If I could double tow I'd bring both boats. But, I trust you with either of my boats! Will you be there Friday morning for the trip to Chattanooga?
