Boat Trader alert: This PNW Amigo STILL for sale.

Post by Locutus » Fri Feb 07, 2020 3:35 pm

This was on Craigslist some time ago for over $17000, now it's on Boat Trader for $10000. Looks like a pretty good deal to me.

Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in this sale, just happened to see the ad.

A few years ago I met the owner and he showed this boat to me. Seemed pretty solid. It took him 12 years to build. This is Hershel Payne's Amigo, which is featured in the builder's Gallery here at Glen-L.com. It was (and I assume still is) moored at Port of Edmonds Marina. Owner had a trailer for it, not sure if that's still true, and I'm not sure if Hershel Payne is still the owner. Here's the ad:

Two takeaways:

1. Home-built boats are extremely hard to sell, and the builder will not get his money back out, let alone be compensated for his considerable labor. I also know this from personal experience trying to sell my Skipjack, which is also still for sale.

2. The flip side is that terrific deals can be had by the patient and knowledgeable buyer.

EDIT, 2/11/2020: Sorry, I got the builder's name wrong above. It's Franklin Paine, as shown in this gallery post:
