I did not buy this motor because I thought the guy was out of his tree.

No spark, compression at 30lbs upper cylinder and 85 lower cylinder.

So at the minimum it needed a new coil, ring job, and carb kit.

He wanted $125.00 was he nuts?

Maybe not completely nuts. It could perhaps be a good parts motor for someone. I've paid a lot more than that for just one little part of my vintage motor and if one of the same model in that condition came up for sale at that price I would buy it just for parts.

For the purpose of turning it into a running motor I would have passed on it too.

Stoney,

It's all about what people will pay for these old motors. For that motor only reason to pay that much would be for emblems if it has any. Otherwise motor is worth about $25. People don't understand what needs to go into these motors to get them running again. Also everyone watches American Pickers now days and think every old item they have is worth big bucks, but there wrong!! There are good buys out there but it takes years to find them. Best of Luck

Travis

Ya, Barret Jackson has done the same thing for the old car market. Everyone that has a piece of crap old car in their back 40 rotting away thinks its worth huge money now. To me what its worth when its restored(and most are worth way too much if BJ prices are correct) has no bearing on what its worth when its half rotted away and every piece of sheet metal needs to be replaced not to mention the interior, electrial, and mechanical parts too. Oh well, my days with muscle cars are likely over because of this mentality.

I grew up rebuilding small motors in my Dad's shop. So a coil, ring, valve, and carb kit would be pretty simple for me, I just thought he was nuts.
