The base of the strut is 3/4" thick and 4" wide so all in all the wedge and the base will be 1"3/4" at the front and an 1" 1/4" at the back off the hull. Maybe I should just go ahead and paint the hull till I can find a strut with a 6" 3/4" to 7" drop and then drill the shaft hole.

Shot of Tunahelpers strut....it looks like he had to do the opposite of what you are doing

Tunahelper's looks good...not sure if I'd do a wedge going the other direction though as that would create a little area of rocker...imho.
