What are the possible consequences of rebuilding and using a 50 hp Evinrude using unleaded fuel with up to 10%, maybe, corn solvent (aka: ethanol)? I know the ethanol is still raising havoc with modern gas engines in terms of dissolving many plastics--fuel tanks, lines etc, my high-tech weed whacker included. Some say there are certain polymers which do not readily disolve in our high-tech? fuels. Others say there is an additive which can help. Methinks this may be part of our "planned obsolesence technology"--use it to one day past the warranty expiration date and throw it away. My weed whacker was a fire safety hazard early--the fuel tank cap was dissolving, causing a leak. The company finally realized they were using the wrong plastic--recall time. I hope nobody caught fire on that one. I got fuel burns on my leg before I realized there was a problem. Glad it did not ignite.
What think you?
Thanks, Bwanajim
