I need to replace coils pionts, condensors, and rebuild the Carb on this engine. It is an 18HP but I can't find my records for this and don't remember the year. I have several older models (a '57 and a '61 I think) but the covers are substantially differtent. Since there were broken/missing parts to the transom clamp bracket I decided several years ago to use this engine for BooBooToo (my current build). Anyone know what year I'm working on so I can go find parts?
Thanks in advance.

If you get the serial number off the motor and the model, this site should be helpful or call the people.

Re: What Year Evinrude
Roberta,
Thanks for the site. Great information there.
Unfortuneately I do not have the year, model or serial number (I discarded the mount that had the plate attached, basicly just wanted the power head and lower end for this project).
I am hoping based on the pic's that someone may be able to help so I can order the proper parts. I am not familiar enough with parts over the years to know what parts are specific to which years.
I'll see if they can use the pic's to identify at marineengine.com.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Mike Morasci

Look for a freeze plug on the block and note the number stamped on it. Look this number up on the site mentioned above.

The cowling looks like a 1963 fastwin, I did up a 1958 one that might be worth a look I think the engine is more or less the same viewtopic.php?f=17&t=15835&p=119182&hil ... in#p119182

Re: What Year Evinrude
Thanks all.
I went home at lunch looked up the number and marineengine.com says it's a '61 (freeze Plug #15034). I have seen these freeze plug numbers before but did not know they were model numbers.
Fergal, nice write up on the '58, great work (wish I had the patience). I have an identical motor that runs like a top (isn't nearly a nice looking though). At the moment it's doing duty on my friends' Steel Head boat, he syas he likes it so much he may not give it back.
Love the quick responses from this site.
