Converting an I/O motor to Inboard

Hi all, starting to think about a new build, specifically about the power plant. I'm looking to build an inboard (leaning toward a Monaco, but not positive), and in looking around, I see many used I/O motors for sale. I actually have a chance at a 4.3L Mercruiser/Alpha 1 combo with very low hours for a very decent price. If I remove the outdrive, what besides a transmission would be required to convert it to inboard use? Just trying to guage whether the savings up front would be worth it over buying something specific. Thanks!

You will need a starter, a bell housing, a flywheel and a flex plate to attach it to a transmission
Everything else should be usable.

you can read my post in the archive newsletter #56.
I converted a 3.0L to a velvet drive, it uses most all the same chevy parts.
you can do the same with the V6.
your V6 will be easier than my 4cyl project, you can get all the motor mounts for that ... oubleeagle
Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!! :roll:
