I am very early on in the build process, but looking around for "stuff" for my Gentry. On Ebay is a brand new Velvet drive transmission. It is 1:1 though. He has a Buy It Now price, but also Make an Offer. Question is, what reduction is appropriate for such a mating? I know "it depends", but somebody must have done this before.
Maybe someone else here needs it more than I do, go for it if you do.

On a similar subject, what engines have gone into Gentry?
I notice there are new transmissions with a down angle built in, would they be better to keep the engine more level? Would that have any undesireable effects?

I have the Glen-L inboard book, still reading it and the Plywood boat building book though.

A 1:1 is what you want.

Rich is right. Most people go for 1:1 on the velvet drive.

Another thing to remember. A 1:1 with a 12 pitch prop works out the same as a 1.25:1 with a 15 pitch prop.

I agree indeed. 1:1 is the one.
